Dinner on the farm with Houndstooth Modern Tavern

We just bought our new farm, and we’re ready to share in this special moment the best way we know how: over incredible food and drinks with our new community.

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, please join us for a 5-course dinner and drink pairing menu crafted and prepared by Houndstooth Modern Tavern.

Courses will feature Sweet Season Farm produce and other ingredients from local farms.

Tickets are $150 per person. This dinner includes an optional fundraising component.

If you feel moved to give additionally, you can choose a $200 or $250 ticket, with the additional funds going toward helping us move and get established here. Every ticket includes the same dinner and experience.

Dinner begins at 4 p.m. Please plan to arrive about 30 minutes early for a welcome and orientation to the farm.

Tickets are nonrefundable. If you cannot attend, you may transfer your ticket to someone else.

About the experience

This dinner is going to be a truly cozy, memorable night of local food and storytelling over a 5-course food and drink pairing together in the barn.

We first got to know the food and beverage duo at Houndstooth Modern Tavern through our farmer friends at California Street Farm. Over the past couple of years, they’ve hosted several stunning dinner series in Minneapolis that feature local food in ways that truly make it shine.

We knew we wanted to bring the idea to the new farm in Hutchinson.

The thing that really makes a Houndstooth dinner special is how deeply their customized menus are rooted in care for people and the earth.

Something they shared with us early on is how important it is that guests with food adaptations (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and so much more) aren’t just given substitutions.

Everyone receives a personalized menu that offers a unique experience. It’s not uncommon for guests at their dinners to be enjoying something completely different from the person next to them, yet equally delicious and full of intention. Likewise, drinks are available with or without alcohol, but with the same quality.

Sustainably sourced local ingredients are a major focus. Most will come from our own organic vegetable farm and other nearby farms, and that goes beyond the vegetables. Instead of lemons, you might catch Rick using sumac or local vinegar because, well, lemons don’t grow in Minnesota.

Why this dinner

It’s not something you see every day, but this special farm is making the incredible transition from one vegetable farm to the next: from Loon Organics to Sweet Season Farm.

We just bought the farm and are making the big move from Decorah, Iowa, to Hutchinson this fall. There’s a lot that goes into moving an entire farm and getting ready to grow for a new community, and the support from this dinner will help us make that transition and hit the ground running in 2027.

During the dinner, we’ll share our story, from a ¼-acre patch to a 40-acre farm. Laura Cullip from Loon Organics will share what it takes to pass a farm from one generation of vegetable farmers to the next, and why transitions like this matter for the future of our rural communities.

About Sweet Season Farm

Ethan and Carly Zierke started Sweet Season Farm on rented land in Northeast Iowa five years ago. We’re a community-based farm growing organic produce for subscriptions (CSA) and the farmers market. We just bought this farm and are thrilled to continue its organic stewardship.
